General information, not a diagnosis Method and limitations

World Health Watch.
Alerts and official sources.

International alerts, regional newsletters, animal data, traveller advisories and RSS feeds: This centre organizes sources that can track a situation without confusing signal, confirmation, risk assessment and action instructions.

No automatic alert on this page. Operational information shall remain published and updated by each authority.

01Trust chain

Read an alert in the right order

Gross information is neither a diagnosis nor a measure of individual danger. Its meaning depends on its confirmation, its context and the authority that interprets it.

  1. 01Signal

Unusual observation, rumour, laboratory result or increase of an indicator.

  2. 02Verification

Origin, place, date, duplicates and clinical or biological elements are checked.

  3. 03Evaluation

Probability, severity, exposure, affected populations and uncertainties are analyzed.

  4. 04Consignee

The competent authority shall publish measures adapted to a territory and context.

04Supplementary watch

Detect earlier, confirm before acting

For a food product already purchased, first look for the card on the national recall portal and compare the exact references. The file check a food recall explains the lots, dates and instructions to read before taking action.

Academic tools and aggregators can identify a signal before it is published by an authority. This potential advance is accompanied by a higher risk of duplication, geographical error, incomplete data or information still unconfirmed.

Avoiding false conclusions

Does this centre display real-time alerts?

No. It gives access to authoritative portals. An intermediate web page should not be considered an operational alert system: open the source, check its date and follow the competent authority of your territory.

Does a signal mean an epidemic is confirmed?

No. A signal may be an unusual observation, suspicion or information still being verified. It becomes a confirmed event only after investigation and validation according to the competent authority's criteria.

Can the number of cases between countries be compared directly?

Rarely careless. Case definitions, screening strategies, reporting deadlines, care systems and periods covered may differ. Metadata should be read and rates should be given priority when calculating them in a comparable way.
