Situation and vulnerability
Elderly people and some immunocompromised people are at greater risk of serious neurological form. Serious cases are still possible at other ages.
Signs and limits of their interpretation
A fever with headache, fatigue or pain may occur. Neuro-invasive forms can cause meningitis, encephalitis or paralysis.
Diagnosis and monitoring
The diagnosis uses antibody tests and, depending on the situation, other tests. An antibody can persist: its presence interprets with symptoms and chronology.

Prevention and care
Reduce the bites with covering clothing, repellent and shelter protections. Confusion, stiffness of the neck, convulsions or sudden weakness require urgent assessment.
Practical issues
Does the vaccine used in horses protect humans?
No. The WHO describes veterinary vaccines, but no vaccine available for humans in its form. Human prevention is based on reduced exposure to mosquitoes.
