Mushrooms: fungus, environment and opportunism

Fungal infections in the repertoire cover superficial and invasive diseases. Some are associated with an environment, others are associated with a flora already present or with a transmission in care. A mould visible in a dwelling does not diagnose a fungus in a person.

The distinctions that change reading

Specific species

Candida albicans and Candida auris are not interchangeable. Check the species listed in the result and in the sheet.

Clinical field

The site is affected and the vulnerability of the person changes the interpretation. Immunodepression situations require appropriate follow-up.

Environment and health

Building expertise and medical consultation answer different questions; linking them requires data.

Practical issues

Is a picture of mould sufficient to identify a medical hazard?

No. Visual observation does not demonstrate the species or infection; it helps document a moisture problem.

Are all the fungus coming from outside contact?

No. Some may result from the proliferation of organisms already present in the body.

Before interpreting a sheet

Find the agent's name, the indicated routes and the primary source. Then check the date and territory of this source. A section helps to compare; it does not determine a person's medical conduct.
