Animal and zoonosis: describe the real contact

A zoonose involves a link between animals and humans, but the possible pathways vary: bite, tissues, secretions, foods or vectors depending on the agent. The presence of animals in a medium is not sufficient to identify an exposure.

The distinctions that change reading

Specific contact

Note species, country, activity and contact with skin, wound or mucous membrane.

Animal sick or dead

Follow the instructions of the veterinary authorities; avoid moving or handling a suspect animal without instructions.

Two circuits

Human health authorities and veterinary services shall review additional data.

Practical issues

Is a bite the only mode of transmission of a zoonose?

No. The fact sheets also describe food, vector or contaminated material exposures.

Before interpreting a sheet

Find the agent's name, the indicated routes and the primary source. Then check the date and territory of this source. A section helps to compare; it does not determine a person's medical conduct.
