Situation and vulnerability
Exhibitions in Latin America are important to document. Transmission may also occur during pregnancy, transfusion or transplantation, beyond the areas where the vector lives.
Signs and limits of their interpretation
The acute phase can be discrete or cause fever and swelling. At a distance, rhythm disorders, heart failure or digestive disorders may occur.
Diagnosis and monitoring
A normal examination or absence of signs is not sufficient to exclude infection. Mention the former residences and the results available to organize the appropriate assessment.

Prevention and care
Prevention is based on the control of triatoms, habitat and food, transfusion and obstetric security. Early treatment is more likely to eliminate infection; follow-up is specialized.
Practical issues
Is the parasite injected by the triatom sting?
The vector transmission described by WHO mainly involves the excretion of the insect contaminating an injured skin or mucous membrane. It should not be confused with the saliva transmission of the mosquito.
