Parasites: comparing cycles and exposures

The directory brings together parasitic diseases associated with vectors, water, food, the environment or contact. Malaria, giardiasis and scabies do not follow the same path. Identifying exposure and agent is more useful than seeking universal protection against pests.

The distinctions that change reading

Vector or other means of transport

A parasite is not necessarily transmitted by a mosquito. The lane column allows to distinguish contexts.

Route and activities

For a trip, specify the steps, dates, conditions of stay and activities; the name of a country is insufficient.

Diagnosis adapted

The type of sampling depends on the disease sought. A negative test for an agent does not apply to all parasites.

Practical issues

Should a fever after a trip be reported?

Yes. Indicate the territories and dates to the professional, especially when malaria is possible.

Does the picture of a mosquito identify a parasite?

No. A vector, a parasite and a human infection are three distinct elements.

Before interpreting a sheet

Find the agent's name, the indicated routes and the primary source. Then check the date and territory of this source. A section helps to compare; it does not determine a person's medical conduct.
